Huffman High School Academy of Architecture and Design
"Working Together: Hand-in-Hand, Side-by-Side, To Design and Build a Better Tomorrow"
Huffman High School has embarked on a new journey that will enhance opportunities for the students participating in the Architecture and Construction Career Technical Cluster.
The National Academy Foundation (NAF) is a leader in the movement to prepare young people for college and career success. For nearly 30 years, NAF has refined a proven educational model which includes industry-focused curricula, work-based learning experiences, and business partner expertise from four themes: Finance, Hospitality & Tourism, Information Technology, and Engineering.
In the Distinguished Academy of Architecture and Construction cluster at Huffman High School, students choose one of two pathways--Architecture or Construction. Coursework leads to careers in drafting design; welding; electrical technology; heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR); carpentry; cabinetmaking; masonry; plumbing; and pipefitting. Course content includes significant technical depth and incorporates engineering concepts and terminology. Students in Grades 9-12 are required to take a foundation course before entering a pathway in this cluster.
NAF fosters partnerships between the business and education communities to provide opportunities to underserved students. NAF's 90% graduation rate and network of dedicated educators, business partners, and students are testament to the effectiveness of this model.
Huffman High School's Distinguished Academy of Architecture and Construction students completed its first Tiny House in May 2022 and donated it to a family in North Carolina. The students completed their second Tiny House in December 2022 and their third in December 2023. We are so proud of our academy students!
