The Alabama Black Women's Roundtable presented Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan with a community award during the organization's Power of the Ballot Empowerment Luncheon today at Boutwell Auditorium.
Jefferson County Commissioner Sheila Tyson and SCLC President DeMark Liggins presented the award to Dr. Sullivan, with Ramsay scholar Bethany Horn introducing him.
During his acceptance speech, Dr. Sullivan gave credit for the award to the employees of Birmingham City Schools -- educators, administrators, and staff.
In attendance were dozens of BCS high school students along with faculty, administrators, and staff. The guest speaker for the event was Congresswoman Terri Sewell.
