Bush Hills STEAM Academy Students Use Technology to Share the Impact of Violence on Their Lives

During Fall Intersession, Bush Hills STEAM Academy teacher Chara Gill was moved by her students' heartfelt stories about the impact of recent gun violence in Georgia and Birmingham in their lives.

To address this pressing issue, she guided the scholars in researching solutions and creating impactful iMovie videos, sharing their personal experiences. Students leveraged the Storyboard feature of iMovie, a technique that was recently introduced by partnering with EdFarm.

Inspired by her students, Ms. Gill connected with Dr. Rochelle Gaston Malone, founder of the Jordan E. Melton Memorial Crusade, who spoke to the students as a guest at a Stop the Violence school assembly and participated in a podcast interview hosted by Bush Hills STEAM Academy students.

Together, they're raising awareness and seeking change in the fight against gun violence. Dr. Melton left the scholars with an impactful message about putting the guns down and using conflict resolution skills instead. Students accepted the pledge.
