About the Teacher

The 2024-2025 school year will begin my 15 th year of teaching. My first three years were spent teaching at Jackson-Olin High School where I taught Chemistry, AP Chemistry and Physics. My fourth year was spent with Hoover City Schools where I taught Physics and AP Physics B.  My fifth year was spent with Vestavia Hills High School where I taught Advanced Environmental Science. My sixth year teaching brought me back where I started and while I enjoyed my time spent with my last two school systems I missed the feeling of home and family that Birmingham City Schools provided for me. This year I will, once again, be teaching Chemistry and Biology. I look forward to meeting every one of my new students and making this year our most memorable yet as we move towards making sure that every student that enters the doors at Woodlawn Magnet High School graduates College and/or Career Ready.

In case you didn't get this from above, I love science!  Which may explain why I have three science degrees; Two Bachelors of Science degrees, one  in Chemistry and one in Biochemistry both from Florida State University and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Microbiology  from UAB. I am looking forward to sharing my love for science and the scientific process with my students this year. My focus for this year will be on developing a collaborative classroom environment in which students take ownership of their learning experience. My long term goal is to become a NBCT teacher.

I have three beautiful children.
