About the Organization

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students annually participate in activities of NHS and its middle level counterpart, the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to develop through involvement in school activities and community service. NHS was founded by and is a program of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Ramsay High School Chapter

At Ramsay High School, we seek to maintain and even exceed the national standard of excellence. We look for students who are not only academically strong, as most of our scholars are, but who consistently demonstrate superb character. Ideal candidates for the National Honor Society at Ramsay are those who exercise good judgement, are polite to teachers and peers, conduct themselves according to the "Ramsay Way," and are respectful of themselves and the school environment. Members of the honor society should demonstrate high ethical and moral standards of behavior. We look for students who are actively involved in their school and community through leadership and service. Members in the National Honor Society should demonstrate the IB Learner Traits and be well-rounded and balanced. National Honor Society RAMS are responsible, articulate, mature scholars and should help perpertuate the pillars of the NHS through their words and actions daily.
