Meet Our Assistant Principals

Ms. LaTonja Murphy

Hello and Welcome!

Thank you for visiting the Jones Valley Middle School’s website. I am Ms. Murphy, an Assistant Principal. Prior to my current position, I served as Curriculum Coach and as an English teacher. As a longtime resident of Birmingham, Alabama, I have loved learning since childhood and enjoy supporting the interactions of facilitating academic achievement for our student population. This year, we are focused on increasing Reading and Mathematical outcomes by providing standards-based instruction and Social Emotional Learning. I am excited for the future of Jones Valley Middle School. As we strive to build leaders and impact the world, we are sure to face challenges. We do this with an eagerness to accept positive changes, constantly learning to ensure a brighter tomorrow. I look forward to working with you and your family this year. There is no better time to be a Dragon! Ms. Murphy Assistant Principal Jones Valley Middle School!

Meet Mr. Pullom

Hello there! I'm Mr. Marvin F. Pullom, II, and I'm excited to be the Assistant Principal at Jones Valley Middle School. I graduated from Ensley High School in 2001 (The STING will NEVER die!!!) and went on to earn my Bachelor of Music Education from Birmingham-Southern College and a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from The University of West Alabama. Right now, I'm working on my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Law at Alabama State University (A-S, A-S, A-S, A-S-U!!!). I’m studying how charter schools and school choice affect diversity and equity in marginalized communities of color.

Before becoming an Assistant Principal, I had the pleasure of teaching band, choir, and general music to elementary and middle school students at Green Acres Middle, Bush K-8, Wylam K-8, and Bush Hills STEAM Academy. Being a middle school educator is something I truly enjoy!

In addition to my role at Jones Valley, I’m also the Worship Director at West End Hills Missionary Baptist Church in Powderly. At home, I’m married and have two wonderful children, along with four rabbits and a dog. When I’m not busy with school or church, I love making music as an independent recording artist, pianist, and organist. I also enjoy cooking and traveling.

I'm looking forward to an amazing school year with all of you!
