The gives every student, teacher, and citizen of the State of Alabama access to essential library and information resources with the click of a mouse. It is primarily a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. Through the AVL, an equitable core of information sources are available to every student and citizen in Alabama, raising the level of excellence in schools and communities across the state.

AVL resources are provided to all Alabama citizens through funding from their tax dollars.
The AVL is a service to the citizens of Alabama by the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, Alabama Public Library Service, Alabama State Department of Education, and the Alabama Supercomputer Authority. The AVL is funded by the Governor and the Alabama Legislature.
