Greetings from the desk of your favorite Assistant Principal, Dr. Byrd.
I am Dr. Kena Byrd, a 27-year-veteran educator in Birmingham City Schools. I have had the pleasure of teaching grades 7 through 12. I have taught 7th Grade Life Science, 9th Grade Biology, Advanced Biology, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Forensics, and Physical Science. I have also taught Biology 103, Biology 104, Anatomy 201 and Anatomy 202, as an adjunct instructor at Lawson State Community College. I now have the pleasure of serving as Assistant Principal at the GREAT Ossie Ware Mitchel Middle School.
I attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama and Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Psychology Education, Masters of Education in Biology Education, as well as my administrative certification all from the "Most Magnificent University on the Face of the Earth!" ASU!!! I received my Doctorate of Educational Leadership (Ed. D) from Nova Southeastern. Go Sharks!!!
As your assistant principal, I will focus on Restorative Discipline Practices to keep our students off the suspension list and in class, Attendance Matters, to make sure that students are present and on time every day and-Data-Driven Results, both academic and behavioral. It is my duty as one of your instructional leaders to create a nurturing, yet productive educational environment for our scholars to succeed.
